 Major Project #1

(7) Biographies Webquest

To select a famous Massachusetts person from history, conduct research and then create a Google Presentation.

This project will be done in pairs and if possible using a shared presentation within the Google Docs system.

At the end of the project you will orally present your famous people from Massachusetts to the rest of the class.

Step 1 – Form into groups of 2 (Mr. Pearse will organize).

Step 2 – Create a Google Presentation slideshow and label it “Biographies Webquest”.

Step 3 – Share that Google Presentation with your partner.

Step 4 – Create 10 slides and label last slide “Bibliography”

Step 5 – Select 8 famous people and title slides.

Step 6 – Learn about your famous people by clicking on the Wikipedia links below.

Step 7 – Add at least 6 facts per slide.

Step 8 – Add at least 2 primary artifact images per slide.

Step 9 – Include at least 2 sources/websites in your bibliography.

Step 10 – Orally present your famous people to your class.

Ask your teacher what their expectations are for this project. For example, how many slides, how many facts and images per slide.

In this project you have researched eight famous Massachusetts people in detail.  Remember, biographies are not just about famous people. They tell the story of any persons life. You could even create your own biography. Wouldn’t that be fun!

Major Project #2

Nations of the World Webquest

Here at Pinecroft, we wish to enrich the learning and experiences of our students and have secured corporate sponsorship to send students from Pincecroft School overseas. Whilst abroad, you will be learning about a culture that MUST be very different from our own.

In order to satisfy the corporate sponsors (who have requested their identiy to be kept secret for this first trial) you must publish a VERY detailed report on the counrty you wish to visit.

This report will contain the following:

1) A Google Drawing Brainstorm organizing your detailed facts, graphs, photos and literature on your selected nation.

2) A cost analysis of the trip itself. This should include airfares, visa costs, transportation, accomodation and food. You need to allow for two people. Yourself and either your mother or father as chaparone. You should present your cost analysis in DETAILED form as a Google Spreadsheet including graphs and charts to visually detail how you will spend YOUR money. The trip length will be four weeks and should NOT include entertainment.

3) You will need to present your application in the form of a Google Presentation to the corporate sponsors at the end of the year. In this presentation you are selling why you are a good candidate BY PRESENTING A CONTENT RICH AND STIMULATING REPORT ON YOUR CHOSEN COUNTRY. Not all students will be selected. The sky is the limit as to how and what to include. Maximum length of presentation to be 5-7 minutes.
